Sometimes erratically high and often inexplicably low
back into the turbid storm clouds I go.

Seeking acceptance but only finding reasons to lament
I'm like a beautiful flower trying to rise up through cement.

I curse fate for doing this to me while still stealing glimpses
of the woman I used to be - young, fun, free and full of energy ...
Why can't she again be me?

Yet here I sit with my lack of motivation feeling rather
disheartened and defeated while still searching for salvation.

I look in the mirror; I don't like what I see
I feel like my feet are ensnared in cement shoes
under a deep sea of lethargy.

It seems I'm missing out on so much of life - all of
the things I could do or see but the sobering reality is that
no one can change me but me ... only I can regain that energy.

But where do I start when incessant pain and fatigue are so intense?
With frustration ever-present, this river to cross seems so immense.

The pain can feel like unremitting daggers of acid rain
that just won't stop and between all of these medications and
agonizing procedures, it's hard to feel on top.

But where there's a will there's a way
I just need to accept what I cannot change and take my life day by day
