Find
out why Lindsey Schocke of Endomagazine.com says Endometriosis - One
Women's Journey is " definitely
a keeper". Read
what book Author Mary Shomon has
to say about "Endometriosis - One Women's Journey". "My name is Darrin Ambrose, I'm 20 years old, and recently I started "dating" a girl who has endometriosis. When she first told me that she had the disease I was, as anyone would be, a little scared. I had never heard of endo before and definatly knew nothing about it." "Now I'm usually the one who's calm and collected, the one who my friends come to when they need someone to talk to, but how could I possibly be a 'crying shoulder' when I had no idea what this girl was crying about? For once I didn't really know what to do, I was lost and even a little intimidated. Sitting there listening to her stories, I could see the pain in her eyes and feel the pain in my heart. I decided that I had to do something, I couldn't sit by and watch someone I care about, go through this all by herself. I tried to learn everything I could about endometriosis. Reading and re-reading books, browing through websites writing countless emails to physicians and support groups, devouring every piece of information I could. Then I came across your book. I just finished reading your book about 15 minutes ago. After reading such an inspirational and touching story I felt compelled to write you, and let you know just how much your book meant to me. This book wasn't just pages and a cover, this book was a detailed account of one womans struggles against a un-curable disease. And although it seems that this disease can never be defeated, the attitude that you have now after all that you have been through, makes you the true winner. Your book has shown me that this disease isn't the monster that it first was, and it's severity is still just as real, I now have an understanding that puts me in a position to help, instead of being afraid. Most people in this world would stop there, and you may have assumed that I would've to, but my feelings are just doing what is necessary to get by, isn't always satisfactory. I know that there are a lot of women out there who just don't have that person to talk to, and may need help, maybe they just need someone to listen. I know that two people can't change the world, but if these two people can help just two other people then all the efforts are worth it. I guess that's where the purpose of this email comes in. I was wondering if there were any kind of information packages or information in general that you would be able to send us on endometriosis and how we could possibly start some kind of help line or support group. Also if you have any advice for us on how to change the world, we'd love to hear from you. Thank-you again for your book, I hope that everything works out for you and that you start each day with a smile. I don't know if you realize it or not, but you book has changed the way that I act and in turned have changed two peoples lives. I wish you the best in everything you do,"--
Darrin Ambrose "Endo
book literally saved my life..BRAVO! --
Rossie (Rromano@ea.edu.com), January 28, 1999 "Jennifer
Lewis has made it possible for a group of us who have sisters, mothers,
daughters or friends who suffer from endometriosis to clearly understand
how heroic these women truly are." --
Janet Eastman, Los Angeles Times "Thank
you to Jennifer Lewis for having the courage to share her story and
help the millions of women who live with endometriosis. Jennifer has
published a one-of-a-kind book filled with personal experiences and
a multitude of information. When coping with endometriosis, information
is power."
-- Michelle E. Marvel, Executive Director "Whatever
combination of surgery, hormonal therapy, pain medication and psychological
support a doctor recommends, medical care must not be done to a women,
but, rather, with her."
-- Dr. Mark Perloe, Atlanta Reproductive
Health Center "Endometriosis
- One Womans Journey by Jennifer Marie Lewis is a comprehensive
guide to understanding and coping with an elusive and debilitating
affliction. What is endometriosis, anyway? 'Endo' is a frequently
underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed disorder that affects some women,
occurring when endometrial fragments attach to nearby pelvic structures
and grow, frequently causing extreme pain and internal complications
that often remain undiagnosed for years." "For a decade, Jennifer endured misdiagnoses and misconceptions about the condition that ultimately led to bouts of debilitating surgeries and poor health, lost wages, lost intimacy, and even depression. Only when she learned to be her own best health advocate did she find appropriate medical treatment, learn the truth about her condition and, in the process, began to regain her dignity." "Perhaps
the most important lesson this book offers its readers is the knowledge
that each endometriosis case is unique. No single treatment fits everyone.
What ever combination of surgery, hormonal therapy, pain medication
and psychological support a doctor recommends. Jennifer believes that
medical care should not be done to a woman but, rather with her."
